Structural BUG Art: from software failure to sculptural structure.
GENERATIVE LOGIC OF STRUCTURAL BUG ART
Distinction from Glitch Art
Image-based Glitch Art typically presents visual effects such as pixel displacement, colour distortion, and fragmented images. Structural BUG Art takes failure into the underlying structure of a three-dimensional model. By deliberately triggering software failures, it causes the structure to tear, stretch, and disintegrate, generating new sculptural forms.
Distinction from Traditional Sculpture
In traditional sculpture, the artist shapes the form from the outside, using it to embody inner meaning and spirit—a process that can be described as “shaping from the outside in.” Structural BUG Art uses the same foundational human figure as a constant experimental base. Its outward form emerges through changes within the structure: “generation from the inside out.” The artist’s creative agency lies in triggering and guiding BUGs, and in judging and selecting the resulting forms.
THREE IDEAS
01 / FAILURE
Failure becomes a generative condition.
02 / MANIPULATION
Software failure is deliberately manipulated to alter sculptural structure.
03 / EVOLUTION
Structural BUG Art evolves through structure rather than fixed visual effects.
STRUCTURAL VARIATION
Seven structural variations evolved from a shared sculptural source.
